BUMG and Boston Medical Center (BMC) seek two genetic counselors to join the Departments of OB/GYN and Pediatrics. We seek candidates whose experience, teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. The ideal candidates have a passion for the care of historically underserved patients. Clinical work across these two positions will be split between reproductive genetics, pediatric & general genetics, and adult cardiogenetics depending on the interests and skill set of the candidates. The individuals in these positions must be comfortable providing care in-person as well as by telehealth.

While FTE complements across departments for these roles have flexibility, we expect one position's primary responsibilities to involve reproductive genetics and one position's primary responsibilities to involve pediatric/general genetics. Opportunities for dedicated work in the BU Genetic Counseling Training Program may also be considered for qualified applicants.

Required Skills

Minimum qualifications:
  • Applicants should be prepared for self-directed high-volume work, to perform at a high level of independence, and to seek case consultation as needed.
  • Applicants must be ABGC board-certified or board-eligible with a master's degree in human genetics/genetic counseling from an ACGC-accredited training program.
  • A provisional or full genetic counseling license for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is required.
  • Genetic counseling work experience is preferred; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply.
  • Fluency in languages in addition to English is highly desirable but not required.
Participation in faculty and staff education, conferences and committees, fetal boards, and hospital quality assurance programs is expected, as relevant. Although these positions have primarily clinical responsibilities, all faculty members are expected to participate in scholarly activities and research. Applicants would also supervise genetic counseling students for the Boston University M.S. Genetic Counseling Program, working alongside a team of other GCs, the GC Program leadership and a medical geneticist educating year 1 and year 2 GC student cohorts.

Emphasizing community-based care, BMC is the largest safety-net hospital in New England and is committed to providing consistently excellent and accessible health services to all. Applicants must have the ability to work collegially within a diverse environment and demonstrate a commitment to our institutional values regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our clinical services and research programs are focused on eliminating disparities in health care. The hospital is also the primary teaching affiliate of the nationally ranked Boston University School of Medicine. Boston University is a world class research institution with more than $250 million in research grants each year.

Send CV and Cover Letter to: Jodi Hoffman, MD, Medical Geneticist, Dept. of Pediatrics at jodi.hoffman@bmc.org and Philip Connors, MS, MPH, CGC, Lead Genetic Counselor, Dept. of OB/GYN at philip.connors@bmc.org. Cover letters should clearly outline the applicant's clinical interests and desire for one or either of the roles as outlined above.

We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, natural or protective hairstyle, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, military service, pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition, or because of marital, parental, or veteran status. We are a VEVRAA Federal Contractor.
